Day 1 - Happy First Day of School

Hello everyone,

Thank you for reading my blog. :) Please tune in everyday to see what we have been doing in Senior Kindergarten.

Today we spent most of the day going over routines and rules of the classroom. We need to remember to be listening at all times and to raise our hand when we have something to say. One of my BIGGEST rules of the classroom is to BE KIND :) and to SMILE.

We read a story together as a class and discussed how we felt about coming to school today. We had some students tell us that they were nervous to start and some who were very excited :)

We then had art with Ms. Kerr. Please check her blog for more information.

When we returned from art, we completed our calendar routine. We learned about the days of the week, months of the year and how many days we have had in school.

During our first lunch, students had the opportunity to purchase pizza for $2.00 a slice. This will be available all week.

After our first break, we headed over to french class with Mlle. Hou. Please check out her blog for more information.

When we returned from french, we continued to go over the rules and routines of the classroom and we created a picture of David from the story David Goes to School. After reading the story, we talked about what makes a "good" student and we pledged to be good students for the year.

Just before our second break, we started a booklet about our first day of school. We will continue this tomorrow.

We then headed back to class where we packed up and wrapped up the day.

Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
