Day 7

Hello,

Check out what we learned about today:
Calendar: Today the calendar routine was led by Mary-Lou.

Phonics: Today the students continued to work on Jolly Phonics. We reviewed the "Aa" sound, action and song and students had the chance to practice printing their letter "Aa". They also complete a worksheet identifying words with this sound.
Journal: For journal today, students complete their pre-assessment for the Ontario Writing Assessment (OWA). It was interesting to see how creative the students can be. All results will be send home to you in the form of a graph in November after we have completed the post-assessment portion.
Math: Today we revisited the correct way of printing our numbers to 10. We practiced the little poems on how to make each number. During this time the students practiced printing numbers 1-10 in their journals. We are getting better at printing the numbers correctly. :)
Just before lunch, students had some time to read silently.

Lunch/ Recess 1

Unit of Inquiry:Today the students reviewed the 5 senses. Together we matched the sense to the correct word on the board. We also reviewed our senses song (to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell). Together as a class we created a list of things we can see, hear, touch, taste and smell. The students did a terrific job coming up with the list.

Just before lunch we talked about choosing "JUST RIGHT" books for us to read. Together we read "Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians" which reinforced this concept. The students loved this story!

Pack Up
Daily 5: Today we continued the process of Daily 5. The students are so excited and are really enjoying these centres.

Agendas

Week of September 14^th- 18^th

- October lunch forms are due Friday, September 25^th – No late forms will be accepted. – The forms will go home tomorrow (Tuesday, September 15).

- On September 17^th, from 4-7pm, SJA will be holding a Welcome BBQ for all families to attend. Pre-order forms for food have been sent home. Please return to school by September 15

- Just a reminder, students are to come to school on Monday and Wednesday in their gym uniform. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, students are to come to school in their full school uniform.

- Please make sure your child has a pair of black dress shoes and a pair of gym shoes labeled and to be left at the school for their indoor shoes this year.

- Please initial agendas on the right side of the book daily to indicate you have read the agenda slip on the left hand side. Any new information that pops up throughout the week will be written on the right side of the agenda.

- Snuggle up and Read – due Friday

- Jolly Jingles – “Ss” and “Aa” are due Friday

- Friday Show and share students: Tayler (Ss), Hunter (Ss), Gabriella (Aa), Makaela (Aa)

Please bring in something that begins with the letter beside your name.

Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size! Please check out our Action board in our classroom to see all our fabulous learners.
