Day 9

HAPPY MONDAY,

Take a look at our day:

Calendar: Today the calendar routine was led by Honor.
Phonics: Today the students were introduced to the "Tt" sound, action and song. Together we brainstormed a list of "Tt" words. We also created the letter "Tt" with our play dough.

Journal: The students wrote in their journal "An inquirer asks a lot of question." - Inquirer is the learner profile focus for this month.
Art: Please see Ms. Kerr's blog for more information.
Math: Today we reviewed counting to 10 and the correct way to print the numbers. We also discussed when we are counting the last number said is the quantity of how many are there. Students completed a counting worksheet identifying how many different body parts we have. The common number was 2.

Lunch/ Recess 1
French: Please see Mlle. Hou's blog for more information.
Unit of Inquiry:Today the students reviewed our 5 senses. Students together listed the 5 senses and we matched the sense to the correct word on the board. This week our focus is on Sight. Together we read the story "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?" and we completed a sequencing activity identifying all the things Brown Bear sees.

Daily 5: Today we continued with the Daily 5 process. I am hoping this week we will be able to complete a full rotation.

Reminders:

- Students are to come to school on Monday and Wednesday in their gym uniform. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, students are to come to school in their full school uniform.

- Please make sure your child has a pair of black dress shoes and a pair of gym shoes labeled and to be left at the school for their indoor shoes this year.

- Please initial agendas on the right side of the book daily to indicate you have read the agenda slip on the left hand side. Any new information that pops up throughout the week will be written on the right side of the agenda.

Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size! Please check out our Action board in our classroom to see all our fabulous learners.
