Day 18

Happy Friday!

Take a look at our Friday.

Calendar: Today the calendar routine was led by Tayler.
Phonics: Today the students continued to work on Jolly Phonics. We review the sound, action and song for the letter "Pp" and "Nn"! Today we had show and share. Thank you to the students who brought something in.

Journal: During journal today, the students completed their first spelling test. Congratulations - everyone did a terrific job!

Just before we had math, the students finished listening to Horton Hears a Who and we discussed the parts of an ear and how we hear.

Math: Today we spent some time reviewing our numbers and applying what we have learned to a few worksheets. We reviewed everything we have learned in math and review sheets have been sent home. Please have your child work on these over the weekend.

Unit of Inquiry:Today the students reviewed the 5 senses. The students were introduced to smelling. We talked briefly about our nose and we created a list of items that we can smell.

Daily 5: At the end of the day today, we completed our daily 5 activities.

Reminders:

- Students are to come to school on Monday and Wednesday in their gym uniform. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, students are to come to school in their full school uniform.

- Please make sure your child has a pair of black dress shoes and a pair of gym shoes labeled and to be left at the school for their indoor shoes this year.

- Please initial agendas on the right side of the book daily to indicate you have read the agenda slip on the left hand side. Any new information that pops up throughout the week will be written on the right side of the agenda.

Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size! Please check out our Action board in our classroom to see all our fabulous learners.
