Day 34

Hello everyone,

Thank you to everyone who participated in the casual day today.
Calendar: Today the calendar routine was led by Anaya.
Phonics: Today the students were introduced to the "Oo" sound, action and song. Together we brainstormed a list of "Oo" words. We also created the letter "Oo" with our play dough.
Journal: Today during journal time, the students discussed and wrote about why they were excited to visit the Apple Farm tomorrow.

Math: Today the students were able to review their patterns by completing a Halloween worksheet.
Lunch/ Recess 1
French: Please see Mlle. Hou's blog for more information.
Unit of Inquiry: Today, we finished presenting the rest of the Senses Summative projects and everyone did such a great job! After, we read the book, "Go Away Green Big Monster." The students were pretending to be really scared of this monster until the monster started to slowly disappear and vanish. Then, the students created some scary monsters of their own!

Pack Up
Daily 5: Today we continued with the Daily 5 process. The students love this part of the day. :)

- Please note: ALL students must wear the “winter” uniform (long sleeve shirt and sweater vest or cardigan)- NO T-SHIRTS PLEASE – If students are not dressed in their “winter” uniform, a uniform violation form will be sent home.

- Please initial agendas on the right side of the book daily to indicate you have read the agenda slip on the left hand side. Any new information that pops up throughout the week will be written on the right side of the agenda.

Action

Action is a very significant aspect of the IB learning process. In the PYP Program, students will engage in 6 Unit of Inquiries (UOI) throughout the school year, with each unit being approximately 6 weeks long. During each UOI, 3 students from the class will be assigned as the “Action Stars”, which means that they are encouraged to use what has been learned and apply it to the “real world.” The purpose of this initiative is to help further knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Example: If we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program with you at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Students who are not assigned this role for the current UOI being taught are still encouraged to show ACTION! Action comes in many forms; it might be something small to something very large, but as long as the children understand the concepts, action is important no matter the size!
